Bold, inventive, and extraordinary! WAAPA’s Composition and Sonic Arts program focusses the spotlight on outstanding student work for both acoustic and electronic instruments. New voices and groundbreaking sounds come alive across a diverse array of performances, featuring chamber ensembles, the hearNOW Art Orchestra, West Australian Laptop Orchestra (WALO), Listener Ensemble, modular synthesis, and other exciting creative projects. This will be a captivating showcase of fresh music, performed by outstanding students from the music program.

Sounds of Some Summer is a sprawling soundscape by Fremantle-based artist Bruno Booth, turning the city itself into an instrument. Across Walyalup (Fremantle), five microphones are discreetly installed — tuned to the sounds of the everyday — the wind, port, voices, traffic, and silence. These live audio streams feed into a central mixing station at the installation’s “epicenter,” where the city’s sounds, as summer awakens, are remixed in real time.
