DESCRIPTION:‘an intervening space\, especially a very small one’ is a new body of work built upon a collaboration between visual artist Tessa Beale and composer Daniel Harrison in response to the Dwerda Weelardinup (Cantonment Hill) site. \nThe artists are interested in the transient nature of observed shifts in light\, shadow\, texture and movement and the potential for quiet moments encountered in nature when in unhurried time. Via sound and visual output\, Harrison and Beale go about extracting particular qualities\, properties and characteristics\, changing the scale at which things are observed and establishing new conditions for these observations. \nThe composition and interpretation of these environments is based on a tacit contemplation of the sounds and the microenvironment that it was sampled from. By identifying a shadow\, a movement\, a quality of light or a texture detected in the surrounding natural environment of this site we aimed to create an immersive experience for the viewer. \nVisual artist Tessa Beale and composer Daniel Harrison are excited to present their collection of new works at Current Gallery opening Wednesday 28th February (6-9pm). This exhibition is a collaboration between the two artists\, sharing and responding to material from the site of Dwerda Weelardinup (Cantonment Hill\, Walyalup). The result is a collection that spans prints\, photography\, compositions\, projections\, and field recordings. \nThe exhibition will be happening at CURRENT Gallery [housed in the former substation of the Naval Store\, Walyalup] between the 28th of February to the 11th of March 2024. \nWe wish to acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people as the traditional owners of the land on which we work and practice. DESCRIPTION:Composer Dan Harrison shares his methods and creative process with participants in this workshop. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday March 13 from 6pm at Astral Weeks for a drink to celebrate the return of the festival and be the first to see the program in full.  \n  \nThe night features contributions from two projects which carry Audible Edge’s spirit of contrast\, play and improvisation. \n  \nAudible Edge’s very own web designer and oddball experimentalist Sookie will present one of their fabled DJ sets between 6-9pm. Weaving vinyl\, lo-fi field recordings and Youtube video samples together the vibe is joyfully intimate and impeccably strange. \n  \nAt 7pm\, Avant-jazz quartet Group Therapy\, featuring Djuna Lee (bass)\, Jessica Carlton (trumpet)\, Simon Charles (saxophones) and Pete Evans (drums)\, will play a live set of driving and rhythmic improvised music.  \n  \nThere might be other silly antics\, maybe a brief speech or two. Festival curators Annika Moses & Josten Myburgh may share some strange items from their record collections later into the night. \n  \nPrinted programs will be there in abundance and maybe some other surprises. Astral Weeks’ wine list is really good — and be sure to take a punt on the in-house curated cocktails. \n  \nEntry is free\, but we encourage you to donate generously to the Audible Edge fundraiser. \nAudible Edge is a festival of exploratory music presented by Tone List. It’s geared towards exploring the marginal\, experimental\, and not-normal. It happens yearly in Boorloo and Walyalup\, on Whadjuk Noongar land. DESCRIPTION:***  ZULI will be performing a very special live set on the night! *** \nAhmed El Ghazoly aka ZULI\, is a multi-instrumentalist\, producer\, and sound artist from Cairo\, Egypt. \nInternationally\, ZULI is best known for his releases on Lee Gamble’s UIQ – which included a string of EPs as well as his debut LP Terminal\, an album that highlighted the depth in his productions\, as he simultaneously combines experimentations in rap/hip-hop with music for listening as well as the dancefloor. The Italian Haunter Records also saw the release of the infamous Trigger Finger EP which went on to be remixed by the likes of TSVI\, AYA\, Acre and more.In 2019\, ZULI launched a video series ‘irsh’ together with Rama where they curated and invited artists to play video recorded sets in a social setting. Only having the chance to record two episodes before the pandemic struck\, they launched a label and released the first irsh compilation in September 2020 which highlighted talent from Cairo and the Middle East. The second compilation is currently in the works. \nLocally in Cairo\, ZULI is best known for his work in the Hip-hop scene\, particularly with rapper Abyusif (who appeared on ZULI’s 2018 album ‘Terminal’) but also in the Electronic music scene as part of the now defunct collective Kairo Ist Koming (KIK) between 2012-2015. It’s there he founded Cairo’s alternative music venue and club\, VENT\, together with Asem Tag aka ($$TAG$$)\, which existed between 2013-2015 before transforming their project into a namesake club night and festival. Around the same time\, VENT London was established at the now closed Dance Tunnel venue by a third partner\, Mohamed Elshourbagui. \nZULI’s music garners support all over the board ranging from the likes of Aphex Twin and Autechre\, to Ben UFO and Bradley Zero\, even Richie Hawtin through its wide ranging sound. SUMMARY:Audible Edge Night School: Hand-made music albums\, a hands-on workshop
DESCRIPTION:Boorloo-via-Montréal label Mystery & Wonder are known for their lovingly-made merchandise including hand-assembled CD cases\, woodcut-printed vinyl sleeves\, and ubiquitous black-and-white tote bags. They’ve toured extensively internationally\, taking boxes of merch with them. In this workshop you are invited to make a merch item from scratch – die-cutting and folding paper\, ink-stamping and gluing\, and even burning audio onto a CD-R (or bringing your own dubbed tape). The workshop will discuss not just the art of making the thing\, but also the love and care behind independent artistry\, and how this extends to making and sharing merch. \nParticipants are invited to bring their own materials (paper\, stamps\, Lino cuts) if they have a preference\, and a CD-R or dubbed cassette. Otherwise\, participants can simply use all the materials provided to make a sleeve and burn a CD with their digital files at the workshop. Participants can also bring a digital copy of liner notes and album credits for printing\, if available. It’s also fine to show up totally empty-handed and start from scratch. \n\nAccessibility\n\nThe State Library of Western Australia Geographe Room is a wheelchair accessible venue. It is located on the ground floor. There are numerous wheelchair accessible\, all-gender bathrooms located throughout the library. The event is alcohol-free and all-ages. The room will be brightly and clearly lit. Live captioning can be arranged for the workshop. The workshop will use shared tools: hand sanitiser will be available. The venue is enclosed with no windows that can be opened. It will not be overcrowded\, but depending on in-person attendance numbers\, it may not have spare for more than 1.5m physical distancing.

Take a moment to touch base with Western Australian nature\, with a spatial field recording of birdsong played back on a surround sound system. Immerse yourself within synergies of birdsong\, resonating gongs\, crystal and Tibetan bowls\, and the dulcet tones of cello. \nOur aim is to provide a tranquil environment for relaxation and participants are invited to engage with the soundscape in any way that resonates with them\, allowing the integration of nature’s melodies with gentle instrumentation\, and guiding us on a journey of calm. \nThere is the option to make a small donation\, with proceeds going to Birdlife Australia (https://birdlife.org.au/). \nArrive at 2.00pm for a 2.25pm start. \nPlease bring a yoga mat. Chairs are also available if you would prefer to sit.

SUMMARY:Audible Edge Night School: Opt-out
DESCRIPTION:Opt-out is a workshop focused on ‘opting out’ of the attention economies of capitalist platforms and developing alternatives that foster listening online. Facilitated by Ben Byrne\, it will feature a presentation of some of his work with Avantwhatever\, a forum for digital sound\, art\, and design. This will include the decentralised social media server Avantwhatever.org\, which workshop participants will be able to experiment with and will be provided as an online gathering space during the Audible Edge Festival. Participants will be invited to share their own struggles\, with the infinite scroll of commercial social media\, listening to and paying for music deliberately and ethically\, connecting with other musicians and listeners online\, or otherwise. Ben will then lead the group in discussing the possibilities of decentralised technologies and tactics for inhabiting the open web in creative ways. \n\nAccessibility\n\nBen will deliver this workshop online via Jitsi\, from Helsinki. Participants are encouraged to attend in-person for post-workshop reflections\, but can also attend purely online. \nThe State Library of Western Australia Geographe Room is a wheelchair accessible venue. It is located on the ground floor. There are numerous wheelchair accessible\, all-gender bathrooms located throughout the library. The event is alcohol-free and all-ages. The room will be brightly and clearly lit. Live captioning can be arranged for the workshop. The venue is enclosed with no windows that can be opened. It will not be overcrowded\, but depending on in-person attendance numbers\, it may not have spare for more than 1.5m physical distancing.
