SUMMARY:Audible Edge '25: Plentiful Supply
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Audible Edge Festival of Exploratory Music. (https://ae.tonelist.com.au/) \nThe smallest\, most perplexing and most flavourful event of Audible Edge\, Plentiful Supply is a hybrid dinner party\, sound installation and performance. Weaved from the found object improvisation\, ceramic vessel-making\, intuitive worldbuilding and flavour alchemy of Kelsey D\, and the modular synthesis and sound design of Soph Kruse\, this is a kind of multisensory banquet. It’s also a great thing to go to if you want to see Audible Edge but don’t know anyone: connections across the banquet table are a given. \nThis event is very limited capacity: we recommend you book right away. \nAccess \n\nPlentiful Supply is diverse-diet friendly: entirely vegetarian with vegan options\, and most items in the banquet free of gluten. Please let us know if you have any particular allergies or dietary preferences with your booking: these can be accommodated. \nEntrance to the event is by a side roller door with ramp access. The venue has two gender-neutral bathrooms which are not wheelchair accessible; we’re currently researching a wheelchair-accessible bathroom that can be made available in an adjacent venue and will update this space. The venue is very small and will likely feel crowded on the night. The music will generally be quiet\, humming and ongoing. Doors and windows can be left open for ventilation. There is no dedicated check-out space for this event. \nThe Audible Edge Festival has a dedicated accessibility budget. Please be in touch if you’d like to use this to help experience this event fully. \n\n

SUMMARY:Sonic Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of personal embodiment through sonic immersion. An intimate experience of the resonant interplay of gongs\, bowls and modular synthesis. \nThe journey begins with a guided meditation to support your nervous system to move into a state of peace and tranquility\, opening the channels to receive the resonant sound waves. \nAllow your whole body to experience the divine essence of sound carefully designed to elicit meditative states of consciousness. A carefully crafted composition created by sound artists Lesley Kaye and Stewart Shepherd. \nLesley has been facilitating sound meditations in the local community for the past 7 years and is currently completing a Phd designing compositions to evoke meditative states of consciousness through sound. Stew is an artist who specialises in creating resonant fields that are supportive of whole body rest through specific frequencies that align to the Earth and Sun gongs. Together they own Burnt Seed Records and host a number of events in the Boorloo region. They are passionate about offering experiences that provide environments supportive of wellbeing and healing. \nBring a yoga mat and any cushions you require to be comfortable. You may also like to bring an eye mask to reduce the level of ambient light. Upon request\, we can also provide a folding chair for your comfort. \nThis event is pay by donation with all proceeds going to Perth Homeless Support Group https://perthhomeless.com.au/.

SUMMARY:Audible Edge Night School: Gym
DESCRIPTION:We are not literally going to the bank\, but we are accessing the collective brains-trust about relating to money; having it\, wanting it\, talking about it. As an artist-run initiative\, a not-for-profit organisation\, a charity\, and a constellation of individual practicing artists\, Tone List and the Audible Edge festival have inhabited all kinds of awkward positions straddling government-funded to volunteer-run. We have a staunch commitment to the rights of musicians as workers\, but also to the power of the no-money networks of creative exchange. This sassy double bill hopes to bring artists together to talk about money and the agency we have in choosing how we relate to it. Within an arena that often leaves us feeling disempowered\, uncomfortable\, unseen\, and in competition with each other\, can we spark a discussion that inspires connection\, problem-solving\, team work and solidarity? \nTwo sessions: \n(6:30pm) Patrick McLaughlin & Allison Archer: DLGSCI grantwriting information session \n(7:30pm) Bridget Chappell: Defund the arts? \nThis session is co-presented with STRUT Dance and The Blue Room Theatre.

DESCRIPTION:March 22\, 7pm – 9pm \nOutcome Unknown\nPale Ribbons Tossed into the Dark\nPedro Alvares\nPlay Group ft. Felicity Groom\, Thea Rossen\, Alice Humpries\, Jessica Carlton\nTicketed event \nPeruvian-Australian artist Eduardo Cossio presents TRACE OF CONSTRUCTION\, an exhibition of new photography works at Ellenbrook Arts. \nDrawing on his practice as an experimental musician\, the exhibition explores performance approaches to image-making\, testing ideas of displacement and entanglement between mediums. Cossio’s imagery starts in the darkroom\, a space associated with the unconscious by the Surrealist artists\, and with worldbuilding since the early days of Photography. \nThe artist has re-worked photograms (camera-less photographs) with the addition of props and projections. He creates stage-like arrangements that reconfigure the visual\nfield whilst evoking the temporality of performance. Working at a larger scale than his previous exhibitions\, the prints are presented as sculptural objects that respond to the gallery space. \nTRACE OF CONSTRUCTION is accompanied by an events and performance program. Join us for live sets by Eduardo Cossio (zithers and electronics)\, an artist talk with Robert Cook (Curator at the Art Gallery of WA)\, and an Outcome Unknown concert featuring some of Boorloo’s foremost experimental musicians. \nProducer: Stirling Kain\nCatalogue essay: Paul Boyé\nPrinting: Joe’s Printing \nEllenbrook Arts\nAddress: 34 Main Street\,  Ellenbrook\nGallery Hours: Tue-Fri\, 10am-5pm & Sat & Sun\, 10am-2pm

SUMMARY:O\,D\,E\, a new experimental chamber opera - audition workshop
DESCRIPTION:Call for singers for a new experimental opera\nO\,D\,E is a new and experimental chamber opera written by Sage J Harlow (aka Sage Pbbbt) and produced by Tone List. It’s a queer\, occult retelling of Orpheus & Eurydice\, grounded in the suffering that comes with simply being alive. Exploring gender and identity\, characters change bodies\, die and reincarnate\, and begin and end contracts with eternity\, singing\, screaming and howling through the libretto as they do so. \nWe are seeking three singers to fill lead roles in the opera. \nThe project runs between July and September\, and features a creative development stage (July 7 – 19)\, rehearsal period (July 21 – August 18)\, and finally a season of 10 shows (August 21 – September 6). All artists involved will receive a fee of at least $3355.30 AUD for the development\, with additional funding pending for the season. \nThe audition workshop will be held with Sage Harlow & Dr Jeremy Neideck (course coordinator of the Bachelor of Performing Arts at WAAPA) on March 22\, 5:30pm – 8:00pm in The Blue Room Theatre’s Kaos Room.. This is a fun\, participatory skill-sharing session: a chance to learn from two of the lead artists on the project\, whilst also having a go at singing through some of the libretto\, in order to be considered for one of the roles. There’ll be some snacks and a chance to meet other folks interested in extended singing in Boorloo. \nRead the full audition information pack with information about how to apply. \nThis project is supported by the Western Australian state government through the Department of Local Government\, Sports and Cultural Industries\, the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts\, and Tone List.

SUMMARY:Audible Edge Night School: Gym
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Audible Edge Night School workshop series. \nRioting against ways of teaching art and music which put brain over body\, we invite you to partake in a day of collective embodied play for makers of all kinds. This features workshops from three local practitioners sharing how their body remains a grounded point of connection to their practice\, and their well-being as artists. While ‘gym’ can be a scary word (and place) for many of us\, we’re hoping to build our own positive associations with the word\, creating a space to tune into our bodies without the internal and external criticism that’s all too often the dominant voice in these spaces. \nFeatures three sessions: \n5:30pm with Dan O’Connor \n6:30pm with Annika Moses \n7:30pm with Moopa \nCo-presented with The Blue Room Theatre and STRUT Dance.

SUMMARY:Audible Edge '25: Program Launch with Dan O'Connor & James Bradbury\, Salty
DESCRIPTION:James Bradbury (modular synthesizer) & Dan O’Connor (trumpet) \nSalty (DJ) \n  \nAudible Edge\, Tone List’s annual international festival of exploratory music\, is back in April 2025. Be the first to see the full line up at our launch party\, hosted in the cosy glow of Astral Weeks bar on February 26. Audible Edge co-curators Annika Moses & Josten Myburgh will help you wander into the strange and silly swamp that is the 2025 program\, aided by some bonkers local sets. \n  \nFounding member of Tone List Dan O’Connor joins forces with recent Berlin returnee James Bradbury\, reunited in their first duo collaboration since 2017’s “Biomimicry” album (TL05). James’ time away has seen him building tools for algorithmic sampling\, designing step sequencers for Rian Treanor and Mark Fell\, and working under the hood of Ableton. For his first performance back in Boorloo\, we’ll get to hear him improvising on synthesizer. Dan joins this with his honed approach to the trumpet\, building incredible atmospheres from microscopic sounds. \n  \nLocal DJ Salty (of Volim fame) facilitates a decidedly atmosphere before and after the live set with choice sounds. \n  \nEntry is free\, but space is tight\, so be sure to register. It’s also a great time to pitch in to support five ambitious projects for this year’s festival through the Audible Edge Seed Fund. (insert hyperlink) \nAccessibility\nAstral Weeks is wheelchair accessible at street level\, and has a gender-neutral accessible bathroom. It is a small\, acoustically treated space. It’s a small bar which serves alcohol. It is likely to feel crowded on the night. The music will have a wide dynamic range\, including loud and stimulating sections and moments of extreme quiet. The room is indoors and air-conditioned and windows are kept closed\, meaning ventilation is limited. Lighting will be low and warm. There will not be a dedicated check-out or quiet space in the venue due to limited space. Free earplugs and N95 masks are available.

DESCRIPTION:Exhibitions opening and live music\, Saturday 8th February\, from 5pm\, FREE entry\, with full bar\, great food\, and spectacular views over the Derbal Yerrigan.\n☆☆☆\nFall Damage\, Tiyan Baker & Jason PhuArtists Tiyan Baker and Jason Phu have spent hundreds of hours playing Fortnite together. Connected remotely through in-game microphone\, for the artists\, Fortnite has become a space for artistic discussion and exploration. Recently\, Fortnite has connected with Unreal Engine to make its four years worth of assets available to the public to build and modify their own Fortnite worlds. In Baker and Phu’s Fall Damage\, the artists draw on existing themes in their work to present a series of video\, sculptural and interactive works derived from worlds built by the artists in Unreal Engine Fortnite. Drawing on the nihilistic pleasure of gaming and the possibilities for finding personal agency\, in Fall Damage explores such ideas as building utopian futures\, speculative altars of worship and communion\, transcendence into virtual (after)lives\, respawning and survivance.Exhibition open 8 February continues until 23 March 2025.\n☆☆☆\nRelic\, group exhibition curated by Rare SilkRelic is an experimental visual arts exhibition that delves into the profound themes of memory\, loss\, and the enduring connections with those who have passed. SUMMARY:Jules Reidy (Berlin) & R. Glacken (Naarm)
DESCRIPTION:Tone List & Goolugatup are very pleased to join to present an outdoor sunset performance by Berlin-based Jules Reidy\, supported by a rare homecoming performance by R. Glacken. \nJules Reidy is one of the most distinct voices in contemporary experimental music – worthy of speaking about with hyperbole. They mix disparate influences into a remarkable personal sound world: American fingerstyle guitar\, microtonal tunings\, auto-tuned vocals and traces of progressive electronic\, new age and musique concrete are weaved into something intimate and atmospheric. Increasingly\, their work leans into pop song forms hovering in clouds of immaculately produced sound collage. Gorgeous\, lush\, brimming with textural detail and played with effortless virtuosity\, there are many ways to get lost in Jules’ unique music. \n  \nReleasing and performing under various namesakes including Dentistry & Tourist Kid\, R. Glacken’s music pushes at the edges of ambient\, club and musique concrete practices\, the lush and delicate against the bent and broken. They have released music on Melody as Truth\, This Thing and Good Company Records. \n  \nEnjoy the warm birak evening breeze with us outside listening to extremely good things. And celebrate Tone List & Goolugatup kicking off another year of adventurous music together <3 \nAccessibility: \nGoolugatup Heathcote is wheelchair accessible and has ACROD parking bays with access to the space via footpaths and ramps. As long as the weather is good\, all aspects of the event will take place outdoors. The music will be loud and amplified: you can position yourself at a distance from the stage that is comfortable to you. Free earplugs are available.  Alcohol will be served at a pop-up bar in the venue. \nPublic transport: \nThe precinct’s street address is 58 Duncraig Rd\, Applecross WA. It is 10 minute drive from the CBD\, with ample parking on site. The closest train station is Canning Bridge\, which is a 25 minute walk from the venue (1.6km)\, and the closest bus route the 148\, which stops a 13 minute walk (950m) from the venue. Tone List are open to receiving emails asking for lifts. \nArtist biography: \nJules Reidy makes music for processed and acoustic instruments (mostly guitars). Their recent recorded work—World in World (Black Truffle 2022)\, Vanish (Editions Mego 2020) and In Real Life (Black Truffle 2019)—can be described as a series of non-traditional song forms which combine unstable harmonic territories\, rhythmic elasticity and abstract narrative over stretched\, episodic forms. They have recently performed at Rewire (NLD)\, Tectonics Festival (SCT)\, Send/Receive Festival (CA)\, Dark Mofo (AUS)\, Berlin Jazz Festival (DE)\, Ultrahang Festival (HU)\, Skaņu Mežs (LV)\, Sonica Festival (CZ)\, Angelica Festival (ITA) and Borderline Festival (GR). \nTeam: \nAnnika Moses & Josten Myburgh (Tone List event producers)\nLyndon Blue (Goolugatup associate curator)\nChris Wright (sound technician)\nOliva Joi Rawlings (graphic design)

Rhys has a radical alto saxophone practice that explores quiet\, muted and buzzing tones from preparing and modifying the instrument. He’ll play a set with his quivering tones sounding with and as the beach. \nAfter music and a swim we’ll commandeer a BBQ up top and grill some stuff. BYO drinks\, maybe something to share. We’ll bring an ice box. \nRSVP via Humanitix. Free with optional donation to Tune Fork Studios and the Beirut Synthesizer Centre\, an artist collective based in Lebanon supporting musicians displaced by Israeli bombings of the city. \nArtwork by Oliva Joi Rawlings. \nAccessibility: This event takes place on the beach. An accessible walkway is less than 50m from parking on The Strand; the best vantage point for listening is right next to this walkway. The barbeques are also reachable via an accessible walkway\, which is a 500m walk around the point on an inclined walkway with a railing\, or up a steep flight of stairs next to the scout hall. The music will be acoustic\, and will generally be quiet\, but may have bursts of loud volume. The whole event takes place outside: it may be very hot.
