DESCRIPTION:ROSS BOLLETER & EDUARDO COSSIO\nGLINT\nJoin us at Wireless Hill Museum for the release of Glint\, the new album of Ross Bolleter & Eduardo Cossio. \nOver the last year\, the duo has been incorporating song-like structures into their work with the use of accordions\, vocals\, and digital synthesisers. This approach – albeit synchronistically – is present in Glint\, a piece for two musicians improvising at the same time in different places. The new record is mixed and mastered by local composer Michael Terren. \nSpecial support from avant-pop songwriter Lyndon Blue and folktronica maverick Ben Buchanan. \nWireless Hill Museum\, Almondbury Rd\, Ardross\nSaturday 3rd May\n4pm – 6pm

SUMMARY:Wishful Thinking presents Perila (DE)
DESCRIPTION:🧝 Wishful Thinking presents Perila (DE) at PS Art Space\, Walyalup/Fremantle 🧝\n\n~ Perila ~\nPerila is a St. Petersburg-born\, Berlin-based sound and visual artist\, DJ\, performer and poet exploring sensitive borderlines and depths of subtle matter. Her practice centres around textures\, tangibility and spatiality of field recorded sound\, raw emotions\, voice\, poetry\, body and change. Music as a healing and transformative agent; an invitation to open other layers of engagement with reality by means of deep listening\, observation\, presence and mutual dialogue with an audience. \nHer performances and DJ sets are dense and intense narratives drifting through a rich sonic palette immersing a listener into a personal and sensual trip\, while delicate poetry and soft voice breathe with a sense of closeness\, desire and release. She aims to create other sound worlds to get lost and find oneself\, to challenge and overcome boundaries and share this expansion with the Other. \nPerila’s works have been released on Smalltown Supersound\, Sferic\, The Trilogy Tapes\, Shelter Press\, Longform Editions\, Motion Ward\, 3XL\, Paralaxe Editions\, Vaagner\, Boomkat and Lillerne Tapes. She is the founder of WET: an online community featuring sensual podcasts with spoken word\, poetry\, ASMR\, field recordings\, and explorations of sonic sexuality. She is also a co-founder of radio.syg.ma.\nhttps://perilazone.bandcamp.com/ \n~ Mei Saraswati ~\nMei Swan Lim is a practicing sound designer and visual artist whose work centres on the environmental\, emotional and spiritual importance of place\, inter-cultural investigation and storytelling. She is also an electronic musician who has been performing and writing under the name Mei Saraswati since 2010. Her work blends deep listening\, minimal electronics and eclectic vocal traditions\, drawing from inter-cultural storytelling and a deep curiosity for connection across worlds.\nhttps://meisaraswati.bandcamp.com/music \n~ Delivery Buoy ~\nDelivery Buoy has quietly honed his craft into the sonically sublime and consistently goosebump-inducing across a surprising variety of directions; common in their pursuit of excellency\, purposeful execution\, and vulnerability of expression. Over the last few years\, Thom’s amassed a diverse catalogue that sits under the broad umbrellas of electronica\, ambient\, whilst also pulling from experimental and neo-classical influences. Listening to his work feels like a much-needed release\, or a gentle reminder to pause\, take a deep breath or two\, and smile.\nhttp://deliverybuoy.bandcamp.com/ \n~ Lia T + Rok Riley ~\nsoundtracking the beginning of the night and in between sets\, is Lia T and Rok Riley\, 2 local legends of the Boorloo scene.\nhttps://soundcloud.com/liatsesmelis\nhttps://soundcloud.com/rokriley \n7pm – 11pm \nFree entry for First Nations People \nWe would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians\, the Whadjuk People\, of the land on which this event is taking place on and pay respects to elders past & present. SUMMARY:A Book of Hours: Rubiks Collective (MEL)
DESCRIPTION:A Book of Hours is a revelatory screen-dance presentation that features stop-motion film\, together with on-stage and filmed choreography. The live classical contemporary soundtrack is performed by the Melbourne-based Rubiks Collective\, Australia’s most dynamic and vibrant new music ensemble. The stop-motion video works are created by visual artist Sal Cooper and choreographer Gerard Van Dyck. Inspired by the mysteries of time and different ideas of how we spend our days\, A Book of Hours combines stop-motion filmed humans and animation on screen\, choreographed musicians and wind-up toys on stage representing the embodied vulnerability of the human form. Taking the medieval Book of Hours as the central concept of the work\, composer Kate Neal references early Baroque influences (Couperin\, Rameau) to reimagine the early canonical divisions of time. \n“Call it dance or art music or just live performance. Whatever it is – A Book of Hours is the best kind of puzzle.” – The Age

SUMMARY:Revivification
DESCRIPTION:Revivification is an extraordinary immersive exhibition combining sound and cutting-edge biological innovation to bring to life the musical genius of a deceased composer. \nFour years in the making\, Revivification delivers a historic first: the in-vitro (external) ‘brain’ of the late composer Alvin Lucier (1931-2021) creating a new work in real time\, as a live performance over the duration of the exhibition. \nIt is developed by artists Guy Ben-Ary\, Nathan Thompson and Matt Gingold with neuroscientist Stuart Hodgetts based at the University of Western Australia (UWA)\, who have individually spent 25 years pushing boundaries in the biological arts. \nThe physical realisation of Revivification began in 2020 when Alvin Lucier donated his blood for the project. His blood was sent to Harvard Medical School where his white blood cells were reprogrammed into stem cells – the fundamental building blocks of Revivification\, using a process called Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (IPSC) technology. Then\, the Revivification Team transformed (differentiated) Lucier’s stem cells into cerebral organoids: three-dimensional structures that resemble a developing human brain. \nAlvin Lucier stood among the giants of 20th-century experimental music. He transformed how we think about composition by shifting focus from traditional musical elements to the physical properties of sound itself. His work with brain waves\, echolocation\, and room acoustics blurred the lines between music\, science\, and art – an approach that spoke to the artists and researchers at UWA. \nAt the heart of the installation stands a sculptural object that encapsulates the incubator housing Lucier’s ‘in-vitro brain’\, living outside\, and beyond his body (the term ‘in-vitro’ comes from the Latin for ‘in glass’). \nLining the walls are 20 large\, curved brass plates that are both sculptural and the source of the immersive sound environment. Each of the plates is directly connected to the neural activity of Lucier’s brain organoid. As the ‘in-vitro brains” signals pulse through transducers and actuators\, they strike the brass\, creating complex\, sustained resonances that fill the space with sound.

SUMMARY:Audible Edge Festival of Exploratory Music '25
DESCRIPTION:Boorloo’s annual “experimental music bender” may now be entered into your calendars: Audible Edge ’25 will take place from April 3 – 6. \nAE is a celebration of DIY and exploratory music culture on Whadjuk Noongar boodja. It has no genre affiliation and is home to all kinds of sonic strangeness. It has a boundless affection for the unhinged\, the goofy and the peerlessly rigorous alike. It is about special music in settings that strive to be fun\, friendly\, safe\, and accessible. \nIf 2024’s festival was something that shimmered and shined\, AE’25 is the same but dropped in the mud. There is a flute under water\, a women’s wartime song\, a tiny rattling machine\, the crackle of burning tree-stumps\, a vulture’s wings cutting the air\, a binaural recording of high-heels sinking into wet grass. Sometimes listened to from something soft and comfy\, and other times in a much sillier context. \nAE is about learning about where we are through those who have courageously dreamed of how this time and place could sound. It’s about learning how great our scene is by putting it on even-footing with international heavy hitters. And it’s about being on the side of artists\, finding ways to support exploratory expression here. \nIf you’ve come before\, we hope you’ll be excited as us to block out the dates on your calendar. If you haven’t been before\, we’d love to welcome you into this cool thing\, and suggest you do the same. It’s all really good\, and flows in a way that takes care of you. \nStay tuned for the announcement of our program launch party in February 2025. \n\n\n“Am I still on planet earth or did we actually crash land on bizarro world?”\nRainy Colbert\, Magazine6000\, 2024 \n\n“this festival rocks”\, “world-class”\, “too good to be true”\npunters\, 2024 \n\n“Audible Edge is definitely now a must-see event on the Perth music calendar.”\n★★★★★\, Jonathan Marshall\, Limelight Magazine\, 2022 \n\n“Every aspect…seemed so meticulously crafted and flawlessly executed”\nTiffany Ha\, SeeSaw\, 2021 \n\n\n“Local label Tone List is now the go-to organisation for Perth experimental music…Audible Edge 2021 was a triumph.” \nJonathan Marshall\, SeeSaw\, 2021 \nAccessibility\n\nTone List are in a slow process of building concepts of accessibility and cultural safety into the foundations of how we operate. We work with peer artists Patrick Gunasekera and Zali Morgan towards these aims. \nSome of the things we do include: clear communication about ventilation\, sound volume and density\, crowdedness\, lighting\, wheelchair access and terrain for each show. We don’t use strobe lights. We provide free earplugs and masks. We host shows with snacks and healthy food\, and alcohol-free shows. We have shows that are kid-friendly\, all-ages\, and shows at times that are easier for parents to attend. We have party aunties on staff at busy shows. We put up content warnings. \nCloser to the date\, we open a portal for requesting specific access provisions at events (such as interpreters\, or a wheelchair taxi between gigs). We have a budget for this. Feel free to get in touch with us if you’d like information about this in advance. \nAcknowledgments\n\nAudible Edge takes place on Whadjuk Noongar boodja: sovereign Country for eternity. We pay respects to Noongar birdiya (Elders) and custodians. We dream of a culture of sounding and listening which supports restorative justice and the Law of the land. \nAudible Edge is presented by Tone List. It is funded by the Western Australian government through the Department of Local Government\, Sports and Cultural Industries\, the City of Melville\, and the City of Perth. \nOur international partners are the Goethe Institut\, the Audio Foundation\, Ater Fondazione\, and the Swedish Arts Grants Committee Konstnärsnamnden. \nTone List’s partners for the 2025 program include Goolugatup Heathcote\, WA Museum Boola Bardip\, Wireless Hill Museum\, STRUT Dance\, The Blue Room Theatre\, Astral Weeks\, Sound Exploration Fremantle\, Teeter Bakery\, PS\, and The Rechabite. \nTone List is sponsored by Pound Coffee and Local & Aesthetic.

SUMMARY:Audible Edge '25: Plentiful Supply
DESCRIPTION:Part of the Audible Edge Festival of Exploratory Music. (https://ae.tonelist.com.au/) \nThe smallest\, most perplexing and most flavourful event of Audible Edge\, Plentiful Supply is a hybrid dinner party\, sound installation and performance. Weaved from the found object improvisation\, ceramic vessel-making\, intuitive worldbuilding and flavour alchemy of Kelsey D\, and the modular synthesis and sound design of Soph Kruse\, this is a kind of multisensory banquet. It’s also a great thing to go to if you want to see Audible Edge but don’t know anyone: connections across the banquet table are a given. \nThis event is very limited capacity: we recommend you book right away. \nAccess \n\nPlentiful Supply is diverse-diet friendly: entirely vegetarian with vegan options\, and most items in the banquet free of gluten. Please let us know if you have any particular allergies or dietary preferences with your booking: these can be accommodated. \nEntrance to the event is by a side roller door with ramp access. The venue has two gender-neutral bathrooms which are not wheelchair accessible; we’re currently researching a wheelchair-accessible bathroom that can be made available in an adjacent venue and will update this space. The venue is very small and will likely feel crowded on the night. The music will generally be quiet\, humming and ongoing. Doors and windows can be left open for ventilation. There is no dedicated check-out space for this event. \nThe Audible Edge Festival has a dedicated accessibility budget. Please be in touch if you’d like to use this to help experience this event fully. \n\n

SUMMARY:Sonic Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of personal embodiment through sonic immersion. An intimate experience of the resonant interplay of gongs\, bowls and modular synthesis. \nThe journey begins with a guided meditation to support your nervous system to move into a state of peace and tranquility\, opening the channels to receive the resonant sound waves. \nAllow your whole body to experience the divine essence of sound carefully designed to elicit meditative states of consciousness. A carefully crafted composition created by sound artists Lesley Kaye and Stewart Shepherd. \nLesley has been facilitating sound meditations in the local community for the past 7 years and is currently completing a Phd designing compositions to evoke meditative states of consciousness through sound. Stew is an artist who specialises in creating resonant fields that are supportive of whole body rest through specific frequencies that align to the Earth and Sun gongs. Together they own Burnt Seed Records and host a number of events in the Boorloo region. They are passionate about offering experiences that provide environments supportive of wellbeing and healing. \nBring a yoga mat and any cushions you require to be comfortable. You may also like to bring an eye mask to reduce the level of ambient light. Upon request\, we can also provide a folding chair for your comfort. \nThis event is pay by donation with all proceeds going to Perth Homeless Support Group https://perthhomeless.com.au/.

SUMMARY:Audible Edge Night School: Gym
DESCRIPTION:We are not literally going to the bank\, but we are accessing the collective brains-trust about relating to money; having it\, wanting it\, talking about it. As an artist-run initiative\, a not-for-profit organisation\, a charity\, and a constellation of individual practicing artists\, Tone List and the Audible Edge festival have inhabited all kinds of awkward positions straddling government-funded to volunteer-run. We have a staunch commitment to the rights of musicians as workers\, but also to the power of the no-money networks of creative exchange. This sassy double bill hopes to bring artists together to talk about money and the agency we have in choosing how we relate to it. Within an arena that often leaves us feeling disempowered\, uncomfortable\, unseen\, and in competition with each other\, can we spark a discussion that inspires connection\, problem-solving\, team work and solidarity? \nTwo sessions: \n(6:30pm) Patrick McLaughlin & Allison Archer: DLGSCI grantwriting information session \n(7:30pm) Bridget Chappell: Defund the arts? \nThis session is co-presented with STRUT Dance and The Blue Room Theatre.

SUMMARY:TRACE OF CONSTRUCTION: Outcome Unknown
DESCRIPTION:March 22\, 7pm – 9pm \nOutcome Unknown\nPale Ribbons Tossed into the Dark\nPedro Alvares\nPlay Group ft. Felicity Groom\, Thea Rossen\, Alice Humpries\, Jessica Carlton\nTicketed event \nPeruvian-Australian artist Eduardo Cossio presents TRACE OF CONSTRUCTION\, an exhibition of new photography works at Ellenbrook Arts. \nDrawing on his practice as an experimental musician\, the exhibition explores performance approaches to image-making\, testing ideas of displacement and entanglement between mediums. Cossio’s imagery starts in the darkroom\, a space associated with the unconscious by the Surrealist artists\, and with worldbuilding since the early days of Photography. \nThe artist has re-worked photograms (camera-less photographs) with the addition of props and projections. He creates stage-like arrangements that reconfigure the visual\nfield whilst evoking the temporality of performance. Working at a larger scale than his previous exhibitions\, the prints are presented as sculptural objects that respond to the gallery space. \nTRACE OF CONSTRUCTION is accompanied by an events and performance program. Join us for live sets by Eduardo Cossio (zithers and electronics)\, an artist talk with Robert Cook (Curator at the Art Gallery of WA)\, and an Outcome Unknown concert featuring some of Boorloo’s foremost experimental musicians. \nProducer: Stirling Kain\nCatalogue essay: Paul Boyé\nPrinting: Joe’s Printing \nEllenbrook Arts\nAddress: 34 Main Street\,  Ellenbrook\nGallery Hours: Tue-Fri\, 10am-5pm & Sat & Sun\, 10am-2pm
