SUMMARY:HTRK (Naarm) / Delivery Buoy / Lia T
DESCRIPTION:Wishful Thinking & Mistletone are proud to present HTRK (Naarm/MEL) in the lush surrounds of the Fremantle Arts Centre Inner Courtyard with special guests Lia T & Delivery Buoy.\nFew groups in history\, recent or otherwise\, elevate mood to such singular\, smoldering supremacy as the Australian duo of Jonnine Standish and Nigel Yang aka HTRK [‘Hate Rock’]. Across nearly two decades of work\, wounds (co-founder Sean Stewart tragically took his own life in 2010)\, and world tours\, their sound has shape-shifted between densities and intensities\, noise and nakedness\, but never wavered in its delicate poetic gravity. Theirs is a chemistry of smoke\, echo\, and the undertows of desire\, the dislocation of cities and memory\, the melancholy of distance and deepening night. It’s music of solitude and sensuality\, for small hours and lost weekends\, spoken in an intimate shadowplay language of skeletal electronics\, velvet voice\, and noir guitar.\nHTRK’s albums have been released by an array of international labels including Fire (Nostalgia)\, Blast First Petite (Marry Me Tonight)\, Boomkat Editions (Over The Rainbow)\, and Ghostly International (Psychic 9-5 Club\, Venus In Leo). For the occasion of their most recent full-length\, the celebrated slowburn suite Rhinestones\, they founded their own artist imprint\, N&J Blueberries. In the live setting they transform spectral torch songs into quiet storms of tension\, texture\, and transcendence.\nMinors are permitted to attend licensed 18+ ticketed concerts at Fremantle Arts Centre if accompanied by a parent or LEGAL GUARDIAN AT LEAST 25 YEARS of age.\nFremantle Arts Centre is an entirely outdoor venue.

SUMMARY:Wishful Thinking & Portal Tapes pres. Ulla (DE) / J (Naarm) / Curlisu
DESCRIPTION:Invitation… join Ulla (live) and J (live)\, alongside selections from cherished Curlisu (DJ) at the Camelot Theatre on the 11th of December 2024. \nUlla… \nUlla’s oeuvre oscillates between detailed ambient\, jazz and electroacoustic inflections on an array of labels such as Quiet Time\, Experiences Ltd\, West Mineral Ltd\, Motion Ward\, Longform Editions and 3XL. A recent collaboration with Ultrafog titled “it means a lot” showcases a combination of these subtle exactitudes drawing an immense breadth of feeling through refined cues and details\, hazy riffs\, oscitant bass and enveloping loops that sequence together in a special coalition. Making a striking but gentle mark on listeners over the last few years\, it is hard to skip past the influence that her music has had\, like opening a portal into a warm embrace\, letting a tear slip down into your ear as you lay with friends on the floor\, a passage free-standing of time\, a discreet voyage… \nJ… \nJustin Cantrell is a Melbourne based electronic musician\, organiser and label head of the new imprint Se Dessaisir Publishing and formerly Daisart\, who collaborates tirelessly with other artists offering a unique take on gentle abstractions and sound. Other familiar aliases and projects in this web of resonant contributions and recordings incl\, J & the woolen stars\, Ju-Ca\, picnic & more. Justin’s music holds space for subtle but complex narratives\, both personal and abstract\, like a beacon holding a candle at the edge of a well. What is up close is as important as what you may discover in the distance\, fading strings and piano\, echo and fuzz cloud and wrap around in a world built for dwelling in for a little while… \nWe are very thrilled to bring both Ulla and J over to the west coast… \nWith great luck Curlisu (DJ)/Meg\, all round gem\, organiser of Triplocate\, dedicated radio buff will be sharing selections to pair through the night. \nHope to see you there\, \n˚ ༘ ೀ⋆｡˚ \n— \nAccessibility: Camelot venue is accessible by wheelchair. no strobes will be used. \nfree entry to First Nations People. \nThis event takes place on unceded land\, of the Whadjuk Nyoongar people\, the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters where we live and work. We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and pay respect to Elders past\, present and emerging\, sovereignty was never ceded. \nPlease be mindful and respectful. SUMMARY:Ruins Alone aka Tatsuya Yoshida (JPN)
DESCRIPTION:RUINS ALONE aka TATSUYA YOSHIDAThe Bird\, Tuesday 29th October 2024\n$15 OTD / Pre-sales\nALT are honoured to present an unmissable performance by 吉田達也 (Tatsuya Yoshida)\, one of the most innovative drummers\, composers\, and improvisers in Japan’s avant-garde music scene. Known as the “devil from the East\,” Yoshida has contributed to shaping the underground scene with his virtuosic drumming and boundary-pushing musical projects.\nA key figure in Japanese experimental music\, Yoshida founded the renowned rhythm duo Ruins in 1985 and has since been involved in critically acclaimed groups such as Koenji Hyakkei\, Zeni Geva and Acid Mothers Temple. The drummer has worked with the entire avant-garde ‘hall of fame’ of the last four decades\, from Fred Frith and Derek Bailey to Keiji Haino and Otomo Yoshihide. John Zorn\, who praised Tatsuya as an “undisputed master drummer of the Japanese underground\,” invited him to play in the seminal jazz/grindcore unit PainKiller on several occasions after Mick Harris’ departure\, and had a huge impact on Yoshida’s recognition overseas.\nDon’t miss this rare opportunity to experience the raw\, visceral energy of one of Japan’s most influential drummers live. Witness his unmatched drumming precision and inventive compositions. His ability to navigate between blistering speed and intricate rhythmic patterns is an experience to behold.\nBANDCAMPhttps://yoshidatatsuya.bandcamp.com/\nTATSUYA YOSHIDA [RUINS alone] at Death By Audio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlJZeJqwisg\nTATSUYA YOSHIDA [RUINS alone] at 下北沢 Barrack Blockhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea0zBfH1Czo\nWIRE PLAYLIST: TATSUYA YOSHIDAhttps://www.thewire.co.uk/…/wire-playlist-tatsuya-yoshida\n~~~\nVenue: The Bird\, 181 William Street\, Northbridge\nThis event takes place on stolen Whadjuk Noongar land. We have been invited by Ting Shuo Hear Say 聽說 to undertake a two-week residency in Tainan 臺南 and make our second record in December. During this time we’ll also be traveling through Kaohsiung\, Taichung\, Hsinchu and Taipei to play concerts and connect with the scene. \nJoin us at Astral Weeks for a little celebration and to chip in to help make the trip possible. We’ll be selling our first CD\, a limited-run T-shirt printed by Pinch Point Press\, and other merch. Drinks for sale by the wonderful staff at Astral Weeks. \nWe’ll play two sets\, you’ll feel like you’re in Berlin. Bangs Baby on the decks providing silly party energy throughout! \nThis is also Josten’s last gig in Perth until 2025\, as they will be departing the following night (!) to work on music in Germany\, Poland\, Czechia\, Ireland and the UK for two months. \nTickets: $25 (waged) / $15 (unwaged) / $40+ (supporter). Bookings recommended as capacity is small. Opt-in free entry option on the ticket portal for the First Nations and Palestinian communities and companion card holders. \nWe acknowledge Whadjuk Noongar boodja and its custodians and elders from all times\, and acknowledge and respect the resilience of Noongar peoples’ under colonial occupation. \nThis event\, the tour & residency are supported through the Western Australian government through the Arts SNAP program of the Department of Local Government\, Sports and Cultural Industries. \nAccessibility: Astral Weeks is wheelchair accessible at street level\, and has a gender-neutral accessible bathroom. It is a small\, acoustically treated space. It’s a small bar which serves alcohol. It is likely to feel crowded on the night (about 55 people can fit in the room at capacity). The music will be very loud or quiet at times. The room is indoors and airconditioned and windows are kept closed\, meaning ventilation is limited. Lighting will be low and warm. There will not be a dedicated check-out or quiet space in the venue. \nOur music sometimes foregrounds a psychoacoustic phenomena called combination tones. These are harmless and you hear them every day\, but occasionally people have strong responses of discomfort to them when they emphasised in music (feel free to look them up beforehand or ask us about them).

SUMMARY:Lucas 'Granpa' Abela fka Justice Yeldham\, S/M\, Saskia Willinge & Lara Dorling
DESCRIPTION:ALT // Hearts of Darkness presents…\nLucas ‘Granpa’ Abela\n+ S/M & Lara Dorling / Saskia Willinge\nSixty Cats\, 6th October (7 to 10pm) \n$20 OTD / $17.50 Pre-sales \n“Lucas is just captivating. It’s incredible how they can flip the feeling of a room upside down and sonically there’s just no other sound like theirs” – ZACH HILL. – Death Grips. \n“One moment you hear John Coltrane playing a volcano\, the next you hear a string section being squeezed through a toothpaste tube” – David Rees – The New York Times. \nMaverick improviser; Lucas ’Granpa’ Abela’s (formerly Justice Yeldham) singular journey performing on shards of broken glass is the stuff of legend. For over twenty years now they have relentlessly toured the globe\, the glass evolving over that time from a means to create free-noise cacophonies into an incredibly versatile instrument producing organic outsider electronica. Played somewhat like a reed instrument\, Abela vibrates the shards edge with their lips\, producing both audio signal and control voltages. These feed a complex modular patch of parallel chains where the performance modulates itself to give the instrument the illusion of a ghostly accompaniment that together forms dense layers of anomalous music. \nhttps://granpa.bandcamp.com/\nhttps://www.instagram.com/gran…\n~~~ \nA combined performance art and noise music performance\, S/M utilises contact microphones incorporated into the rope harnesses of a Shibari self-suspension. Sounds are collected via wireless transmitters\, then amplified and modulated. As the rope is taut\, and under the strain of weight\, it vibrates and resonates similar to a string of an instrument. As the rope moves against itself and Serena\, each movement is seen\, heard\, and felt by the viewer.\nhttps://www.instagram.com/sm_n… \nMatthew Taggart is an arts worker\, artist and musician. As well as S/M\, they regularly perform live across Boorloo as part of the projects yumyab\, Never Again\, Drowned God and Satellites. SUMMARY:York Festival: Visceral Fragments by Simon Charles & John Kinsella
DESCRIPTION:Simon Charles and John Kinsella have collaborated on their work\, Visceral Fragments\, since late 2022. \nOver many months\, these artists exchanged poetry\, sound recordings\, and interpretations of each’s work. This culminated in a premiere performance at Audible Edge festival\, described by Izzy French in Magazine 600 as ’mythical’\, and ‘enthralling’. Focusing on York’s Suspension Bridge as a central theme\, Visceral Fragments is a place-based and anti-colonial work. \nField recordings transduced through air\, water\, and the bridge itself underpin the sonic language of the work. Kinsella’s text traces a poetics from in-the-world signifiers to themes of environmental destruction and survival. \nTicketing – Included in Day/Weekend Pass \nDate & Time – Saturday 28th Sept\, 7:30pm\nSunday 29th Sept\, 1:30pm \nAccess: Steps and narrow doors. Drop in and create with Eucalyptus in the studio whilst listening to a live ambient-experimental sound-set by Moses. \n\n\n\nAbout the artist\nMoses Kington-Walberg is an early career composer from the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia (Ballardong\, Yued and Whadjuk Noongar country). His current work explores ideas of interpretive autonomy\, bioacoustics and ‘the ordinary’\, seeking to quietly tackle mechanistic protocols in traditional classical settings. Moses’ compositions are experimental\, texturally driven and dynamic\, underpinned by playful\, highly collaborative performance philosophies. Moses received a Bachelor of Music (Hons.) from the University of Melbourne (under Elliott Gyger) and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Australia (under James Ledger). He has participated in various training programs including those hosted by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra\, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Australian Art Orchestra. Moses has composed for a number of ensembles and soloists across Australia\, and has been recognised with awards including the Dorothy Ellen Ransom Prize in Musical Composition\, the WA Symphony Orchestra Bendat Scholarship and the Ellinor Gertrude Harris Bequest.

SUMMARY:Sound Exploration Fremantle - Anna Noguchi (JPN) & Kelsey Diamond
DESCRIPTION:For this workshop we are thinking a lot about water\, the sound and the shapes and the changing seasons\, liquidity and mess. We will have comfortable floor or chair options for you\, inside an installation of soft\, sculptural mess. Our beautiful friend Yoko Kaga will feed you all (vg\, gf) .\nAnna + Kelsey are multidisciplinary artists\, working with clay\, textile scrap\, sounds\, bits of phone video\, movement\, gardening \, misc . we connect over our love of pleasant trash and tiny beautiful sights.\nThis workshop hopes to leave you sparkly\, slower\, and a little bit wet.www.AnnaNoguchi.cominstagram.com/@kelseyrere\nWhere: Sullivan Hall\, 2 Nannine Ave.\, White Gum Valley\, WA\nWhen: 22 September\, from 2 – 4.30pm$10-15-20\n\nAccessibility Information:\nThe Sullivan Hall is a wheelchair accessible venue\, accessible via the footpath on inclined but smooth terrain.
