Gun Fu is an experimental jazz group with influence from Malian Kora music, Nigerian Afro-Beat, Afro-Cuban jazz, Chinese erhu music & the New York downtown jazz & No-Wave scenes of the 80s. The band's set will consist of the recital and improvisational exploration of Benjamin Witt's original compositions written for the "Mod Dogs" painting exhibition by Stephen Brameld and Jay Staples. Join composer and sound artist Elizabeth Millar to explore a variety of historical graphic scores and alternative forms of musical notation including images, video and text. Discussion will be interspersed with group playing. In the second workshop we will explore further examples and workshop graphic scores proposed by group members.
