In celebration of the 30th anniversary of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks film Fire Walk With Me (1992), WA-founded new music ensemble Decibel transforms PICA into a progressive concert environment teeming with red velvet and darkened portals in Twin Peaks Was 30. Experience a series of unfolding compositions in a unique concert environment that pays tribute to the theme song’s composer, Angelo Badalamenti, and featured singer, Julee Cruise, with a 30-minute reworking of the original film score. A visual and sonic exploration of the Decibel new music ensemble’s Complete John Cage Variations’ Project.

In 2012, Decibel new music ensemble devised 'The Complete John Cage Variations Project', an hour-long performance program featuring the eight Variations compositions (1958-76) composed by the important twentieth century composer John Cage (USA, 1912 -92). This exhibition displays some of the computer-generated scores and sound making objects devised for this project. It aligns with the release of a book edited by Decibel members Cat Hope and Lindsay Vickery, entitled Actions|Remarks: John Cage’s Variations and the expansion of the score, sonic materials, space, and the environment which includes a CD recording of the Decibel Complete Variations Project on US Label Mode. Pedro Alvarez is an independent composer, performer, improviser and activist born in Chile in 1980, and currently based on Whadjuk Noongar land in Western Australia. His musical practice spans from Andean folk traditions through chamber music to experimental free improvisation, informed by anti-colonial perspectives, critical theory, and poetry. Between 2010-2014, a doctoral scholarship allowed Alvarez to concentrate exclusively on his creative work while living in the UK, completing a Master of Philosophy at University of London, and a PhD guided by Liza Lim at University of Huddersfield.
