SUMMARY:Lydia Lunch performs the songs of Suicide & Alan Vega
DESCRIPTION:New York – No Wave Queen\, Lydia Lunch – returns to Australia to perform the songs of synth – punk band\, Suicide and Alan Vega. \nLydia will be joined on stage by Andrew Coates of much loved Melbourne electro trio\, Black Cab to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Alan Vega’s passing + special guests. \nLunch originally met Suicide – the duo of late vocalist Alan Vega and multi-instrumentalist Martin Rev – in the 1970s\, when Lunch moved to New York City from Rochester as a teenager. She formed a lifelong bond with the pair\, often joining them on-stage to perform the song ‘Frankie Teardrop’ and recording a duet as part of Vega’s solo album Sniper. Since Vega’s passing in 2016\, Lunch has performed several Suicide tribute shows\, most often with Marc Hurtado. \nHaving previously never performed the show in Australia\, Lydia surprised fans on a night off in Melbourne during her 2024 Spoken Word tour with an impromptu appearance at the Tote. It sold out in 3 days so she decided to bring it back for Vega’s anniversary in 2026. \nPassionate\, sexual\, confrontational and bold\, Lunch\, Vega and Rev are all cut from the same grimy cloth of 1970s New York. This show is more than a tribute. It’s an offering.

SUMMARY:Jimi DePriest - Open Studio
DESCRIPTION:Concluding the first of four residencies in our 2026–27 Residency Program\, Cool Change is excited to present an open studio with Jimi DePriest\, featuring an artist talk facilitated by Samuel Beilby—artist\, occasional musician\, and co-founder/co-director of _____g.s (aka Underscore Gallery & Studios). \nWith assistance from Matthew Taggart and conceptual input from Lia T\, Jimi has been developing an audiovisual installation inspired by ‘clutter rejection’—an adaptive method observed in echolocating bats—for presentation at _____g.s later in the year. \nA wire framework\, abstractly modelled on the anatomical features of bats\, will suspend a 5-channel stereo system attached to a motor and including an interactive system with conductive textile components and input sensors. Field recordings and gritty beats will be controlled by the system and its various inputs through SuperCollider. \nFrom its hardware and software to its audio components\, the work considers the bat’s ambiguous subjectivity in an attempt to approximate environmental feedback between its natural sonic world and anthropogenic noise pollution\, problematising and reconfiguring echolocation as a site of artistic inspiration and technological invention. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis program is proudly supported by the WA Government. \nCool Change is supported by the Visual Art\, Craft and Design Framework\, an initiative of the Australian\, State and Territory Governments.

SUMMARY:Jimi DePriest - Supercollider Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Following their open studio and artist talk\, Jimi DePriest will present a Sunday afternoon workshop on SuperCollider—an open-source software environment and dynamic programming language used by musicians\, artists\, and researchers working with sound for audio synthesis and algorithmic composition. \nThe 3-hour workshop is intended to provide participants with an introduction to the audio program ahead of producing a practical outcome. The first hour will consist of an overview of SuperCollider\, while the second hour will see participants develop their own projects to be tested on a 5-channel stereo system in the third hour. \nPlease note: \nRegistered participants will need to bring a laptop with SuperCollider pre-installed to the workshop\, along with a laptop charger. The software is free\, and download/install instructions will be emailed in advance of the course. \nWhile the workshop doesn’t require prior experience with SuperCollider\, we suggest that participants have a competent understanding of their laptop and its OS\, as well as a basic knowledge of acoustics and digital audio.

SUMMARY:Tone List celebrates 10 years
DESCRIPTION:We are elated to invite you to celebrate Tone List’s ten-year anniversary with us! \nTone List is a Boorloo-based label for exploratory music\, founded in 2016. Artist run forever\, we’ve released over forty albums\, put on eight festivals\, invited dozens of international guests to play in town\, put on hundreds of gigs\, produced an opera\, hosted regional tours and artist retreats\, paid tens of thousands of dollars to artists\, and won a bunch of awards. \nWe cross this milestone as a collective that remain in dear friendship\, and which has grown to include a host of lovely people helping us both in the lofty realms of governance and curation and with boots on the ground making shows happen. \nWe look to the future as an organisation that wants to use what we’ve patiently established to pour resources and support into the underground scene. This show is a celebration\, and also an occasion where we hope to garner your support to keep doing this thing. \nAs for the night itself: we will have lots of extremely good live music from friends old & new\, food & drinks\, birthday cake\, merch\, and antics. A warm space that prioritises close listening to the music\, and kindness and playfulness between the sets. And weirdness all through-out 😎. \nPerforming on the night:\nWayang – DJ sets \nMary Rapp & Ben Greene – amplified cello & drums \nSage Pbbbt – solo amplified voice \nClouds Come Rain & Basic Mind – electric guitar & electronics \nand the Tone List Family Band & Friends\, an orchestral improvisation ft. Jameson Feakes (guitar)\, Lenny Jacobs (drums)\, Annika Moses (voice)\, Josten Myburgh (saxophone) & Dan O’Connor (trumpet)\, joined by collaborators from across Tone List’s history. \nAlso taking part: \nJosh Wells – photography installation \nKate Makowiecka and Braddy Breadcrumbs – dinner (vegan\, by donation) \nTeeter – birthday cake \n& more special guests to be announced. \nPlus merchandise packages from Tone List and our new anniversary book publication\, TL10Y. \nACKNOWLEDGMENTS \nThis anniversary event is hosted as part of WA Music Week and is proudly supported by the Western Australian government and WAM\, with thanks for the support. \nTone List operates on Whadjuk Noongar boodja\, sovereign Country for eternity. \nACCESSIBILITY \nWyola is accessible via stairs or a lift\, through the same entranceway. \nWe supply free earplugs\, some emergency medication (i.e. anti-opioids) and a little box of nice/helpful things like lip balm\, mints etc. if you need anything throughout the night. \nMixed seating options are available (couches\, chairs\, soft furnishings\, and floor seating). It’s OK to move around during the performances. \nThe performance space will be fairly dark and lit with stage lighting\, whilst the bar will be more warmly lit. Some haze will be in use in the performance space. \nNo dedicated quiet/check-out space is available\, but we will set up a few quiet corners in the venue\, both in the performance space and in the bar. \nAll of the sets are amplified through the PA system and range from medium-volume electronic/ambient music to loud\, raucous and noisy improvisation. \nIf you have any questions please feel free to contact us at info@tonelist.com.au
