WWIM presents: Exploring Sounds with Contact Mics and Found Objects

August 17, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

WWIM presents: Exploring Sounds with Contact Mics and Found Objects is a free, introductory workshop designed for young people (aged 16-25) to
experiment with contact microphones and create improvised sounds using
objects.

A contact microphone senses audio vibrations through contact with solid objects, unlike normal microphones that sense audio vibrations in the air. This allows for a fascinating exploration of sound in a tactile and immersive way.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
1. Learn the basics of using contact microphones
2. Experiment with creating sounds from everyday objects
3. Combine sound with other art forms such as movement and tactile arts

Attendees will be guided by musicians Jane Stark and Naoko Uemoto.

This free workshop is presented by WWIM, with thanks to Izzy French for the graphics and the City of Melville for their support.
